More is needed to meet targets on biodiversity

The word 'biodiversity' was coined in 1985 to describe the variety of life found in a particular place. At one end of the spectrum, tropical coral reefs can have a very rich biodiversity while at the other end a local, well-managed field of barley will almost certainly support a very poor biodiversity with little in it other than the monoculture of barley plants.
