he Australian government has ambitious plans to protect the Great Barrier Reef, but it could do more, says a former government official. The former head of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA) is calling for a halt on the construction of new coal mines in Australia to prevent further damage to the reef. Graeme Kelleher served for 16 years as the first chairperson and chief executive of the GBRMPA, a government organization.
