Ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9)

In 2006, the International Alliance and RAIPON launched a global partnership aimed at enhancing the participation of indigenous peoples in the various CBD processes. This effort was a response to the growing need for indigenous peoples to systematize their participation in these meetings. The effort, known as the Indiegnosu Peoples Network for Change (IPNC) was able to get funding support from UNEP-GEF, NOVIB and NORAD. The project was launched in Curritiba at the occasion of the CoP8 of the CBD, March 2006. Two years after its launching and entering the last year of the project, the IPNC has decided to sponsor a side event during CoP9, May 2008. The side event being proposed is meant to achieve the following: 1. present the achievements of the project during the past two years; 2. validate lessons learned during the project implementation; 3. serve as a learning process for IPO’s and donor agencies on similar projects;
