Ms. Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, German Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, and Mr. Ahmed Djoghlaf, CBD Executive Secretary, the panel discussion will include selected high-level speakers such as government ministers and directors of multi and bi-lateral organizations. The aim of this side event is to share approaches and experiences on how to better integrate conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity into development and poverty reduction strategies and programmes. The three specific objectives of this high-level discussion are: 1 - To provide a quick overview on current on-going activities regarding this issue in the context of the MDG and Poverty Reduction Strategic Plans (PRSPs); 2 - To demonstrate that integrating biodiversity considerations into development projects can result in positive outcomes for both development and biodiversity; 3 - To launch a network on this theme led by the Secretariat of the Convention bringing together main organizations and cooperation agencies in charge of development.
