Presentation Summary: The discussion focuses an examination of why the agricultural product export and import industry is concerned about the food security, economic and nutritional impact on importing Parties from pending developments as covered by Article 27 of the Cartagena Protocol on Bio-safety. An explanation of bulk grain and oilseed international logistic considerations is included to demonstrate important practical considerations. An analysis of global supply and demand for the more than 350 million tons of commodities for food, feed and further processing that would be impacted by Article 27 brings to light the importance of a measures that accommodate sound commercial practice, practical risk management and economical movement in this critical supply chain. The presentation represents the perspective of the International Grain Trade Coalition, an organization representing grain trade organizations from over 80 countries.
