Meeting
Seventh Ordinary Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 7)
Decision II/8 of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity identified the lack of taxonomists as a significant impediment to the implementation of the Convention at the national level. The Global Taxonomy Initiative (GTI) was established by the Conference of the Parties to address the ‘taxonomic impediment,’ one of the main impediments to sound decision for the conservation, sustainable use and equitable sharing of benefits derived from genetic resources. This refers to the lack of available and appropriate taxonomic information and expertise at national, regional and global levels. The presentations at the side event address on-going activities in research, networking and efforts to over-come the taxonomic impediment.
Presenters:
L.Rogo - Importance and Need for Capacity Building in Taxonomy. (The CBD Secretariat- www.biodiv.org)
J.
