Ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9)

This event will showcase the "Species 2000 Cataolgue of Life", an EU initiative to provide the baseline checklist for all known species in the world. The initative has extended to a golobal partnership with the Integrated Taxonomic Information System, and has connected with a range of mega-diverse countries. The result is a 2008 catalogue with over 1.1 million species. The event will also focus on the sustainable use of marine biodiversity, presenting results of the INCOFISH (integrated coastal management with a focus on fisheries) project. INCOFISH involves targeted research towards the development and application of databases and other tools for achieving the WSSD marine protection goals. Time will be set aside for an open discussion.
