Meeting
Ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9)

For the Framework Programme of 2007-2013 the EU will dedicate €1.8 billion to research on the environment, with a further €1.8 billion dedicated to the development of research infrastructures. EU research projects are open to both EU and non-EU nationals and institutions. This event will begin with a presentation on "Climate Change and Biodversity: what is Europe heading for?". It will then showcase results and policy perspectives from ongoing climate change and biodiversity projects that benefit from EU financial support: - ALARM: Assessing large-scale environmental risks for biodiversity with tested methods; - MACIS: Minimisation of and adaptation to climate change impacts on biodiversity; - COCONUT: Understanding effects of land use changes on ecosystems to halt loss of biodiversity due to habitat destruction, fragmentation and degradation. An open discussion should explore the contribution made by these research projects to the implementation of the programmes of work of the CBD.
