Ninth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 9)

National NGOs in five countries belonging to the BirdLife International Africa Partnership are providing support to local conservation groups to help them link birds and biodiversity conservation with improved livelihoods of their communities. This side event will present examples from two projects supported by SwedBio and the Spanish Agency in Botswana, Burkina Faso and Kenya (SwedBio) and Ethiopia and South Africa (Spanish Agency). Local conservation groups and national NGOs from these countries will present their perspectives on the efforts to address poverty reduction while conserving biodiversity and how the lessons learnt could be used at local and national levels to support CBD implementation.
