Side Event
Missing Links for Mainstreaming Conservation into Poverty Reduction Strategies
Organizer
German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation
Date and Time
24 May 2010 13:15 - 14:45
"....to achieve by 2010 a significant reduction of the current rate of biodiversity loss at the global, regional and national level as a contribution to poverty alleviation and to the benefit of all life on Earth” has become to be known as the 2010 Biodiversity Target. Yet, the Working Group on Review of Implementation (WGRI) found that mainstreaming biodiversity in national development and poverty reduction strategies and broader planning processes appears to be generally weak. This side event will offer a platform to discuss missing links for mainstreaming conservation into poverty reduction strategies, specifically focussing on supporting mechanisms. Case studies will illustrate the potential of successful implementation of selected mechanisms. The discussion will provide inputs into upcoming WGRI negotiations.
