The Trondheim Conferences on Biodiversity have since 1993 provided a valuable forum for science-policy dialogue. The sixth conference was held on 1 – 5 February 2010 in Trondheim, Norway, and gathered more than 300 participants from 100 countries, representing governments, the scientific community and relevant institutions and organizations. The conference was hosted by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment in collaboration with UNEP and the CBD Secretariat, and was organized by the Norwegian Directorate for Nature Management (DN). Participants focused on the need for speeding up implementation of the CBD and on challenges and opportunities for post 2010 biodiversity targets. The outputs of the conference will hopefully be a valuable contribution to CBD negotiations on post 2010 biodiversity targets and on the new strategic plan. The side event will present the findings from the sixth Trondheim Conference, focusing primarily on the main messages from the Chairmen’s Report. The following tentative program has been set for the side event: • Introduction (representative from the Government of Norway) • Presentation of conclusions and recommendations (Conference Co-chair Peter Schei) • Prepared comments (To be confirmed) • Questions and comments. More information on the conference is available at www.trondheimconference.org.
