FOREST EUROPE: Enriching Biodiversity — 2010 and beyond

The side event will: • present FOREST EUROPE contributions to actions for achieving 2010 Biodiversity Target; • highlight the existing and potential role of sustainable forest management and actions towards achieving 2010 target and post-2010; • stimulate discussion on how to strengthen sustainable forest management to halting loss of forest biodiversity and how the pan-European tools and concepts can serve for this; • present the recent developments in the FOREST EUROPE cooperation: outcome of the latest review report in relation to biodiversity aspects; current work on a possible Legally Binding Agreement on Forests in Europe; current work on climate change and forests; current work on strategic directions of the process, including work on vision and goals; • present plans and preparations for the 6th Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe, which will be held in Oslo in June 2011 and will be a pan-European contribution to the International Year of Forests.
