Meeting
Fourteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 14)

Coastal and Marine ecosystems in the Western Indian Ocean provide food and other goods and services of strategic importance to livelihoods and national economies. These ecosystems however are increasingly being degraded due to human induced threats such as over exploitation, habitat loss and climate change. The challenges of managing marine and coastal ecosystems and resources are enormous and require integrated approaches as well as collaboration between government institutions mandated to manage these resources, and regional and international partners that can support the efforts of government and communities. The side event will show case how partnerships between government, regional and international organizations have improved science and management capacity for marine and coastal management in the Western Indian ocean.
