Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

The Global Legislators Organisation, GLOBE International, is a unique network of legislators committed to addressing global environmental challenges. GLOBE parliamentarians work closely with leading scientists, economists and policy specialists to develop progressive and coordinated environmental legislation, which they then advance in their parliaments. GLOBE and the CBD Secretariat are co-hosting a Parliamentarians Forum at CBD COP10, on 25th – 26th October. Legislators from around the world have been invited to attend in order to develop and endorse a Parliamentarians’ “Natural Capital Action Plan”. This side event will present the major outcomes of the Parliamentarians Forum, emphasising the key steps that legislators can make to recognise the true value of biodiversity, ecosystem services and natural capital in national policy making. This will include action on environmental accounting, public-private sector partnerships and strategies for investing in natural capital through restoration and conservation. The side event will also launch a new report for policy makers by GLOBE, the Zoological Society of London and Volans that showcases legislative approaches to investing in natural capital. The report and side event will profile examples of projects from around the world that demonstrate clear evidence of the environmental, social and economic values of restoration and conservation initiatives that are supported or defined by innovative legislation. Speakers will be drawn from the pool of senior legislators and experts profiled in the report.
