Meeting
Tenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 10)

The economic evaluations of biodiversity and ecosystem services provide new powerful and useful points to argue in favour of biodiversity conservation. The event will look at different case studies to illustrate this power of figures and economic values during decision processes concerning biodiversity. Discussing these experiences in various parts of the world, the session will look as well at other key factors playing in decisions processes. Aside economic arguments, other key values of biodiversity, social and political factors, and institutions are often key to engage in a project or a policy change. One element of the discussion will be to consider how economic arguments play out differently at local, national, regional or global levels. The participants will try to come up with some empirical lessons for efficient decision-making processes based on economic valuation of biodiversity and ecosystem services. The event will present experiences of projects and strategies of Conservation International, WWF and French Cooperation.
