“Tangible Earth” is the world’s first interactive globe, invented by Prof. Shinichi TAKEMURA. It is a medium which makes it possible to visualize in real-time various aspects of our planet (such as cloud movements, cyclones, global warming, the global migration of birds and whales) as well as socio-cultural and historical developments, with the aim of raising the level of “global consciousness” of future generations. Tangible Earth will be a gift to them, showing not only the exceptional beauty and dynamism of our living planet but the vital bond among citizens who share one globe. In this session, we will focus on the impact of climate change on eco-system and biodiversity. Through the discussion among researchers on climate change and biodiversity and the specialist of information design, we seek for the effective way to call attention to these issues which are closely related to each other. The importance of conserving biodiversity to mitigate the impact of climate change will also be highlighted.
