Meeting
Fifteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

Forest restoration has the potential to support both climate change mitigation and adaptation and is increasingly considered an element of national climate change strategies. The German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation is working with the UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre and the World Resources Institute to help improve our understanding of the potential for forest restoration at global scale and to start thinking about the potential for restoration and resulting benefits, such as biodiversity and ecosystem services, at lower scales. A global map of forest restoration potential will be presented and the global potential for carbon sequestration through restoration will be discussed. Sub-national examples will be presented from Latin America, including from the Atlantic Forest biome in Brazil.
