Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets

Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

This year, in collaboration with CBD Secretariat and with the financial assistance of the Japan Biodiversity Fund, the International Development Law Organisation (IDLO) and Centre for International Sustainable Development Law (CISDL) launched a legal initiative to help countries legally prepare to achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. Its purpose is to create an enabling legal environment which helps Parties track and achieve the Targets at all levels. This event will launch an advanced version of a new web based Legal Toolkit that supports CBD implementation by identifying treaty obligations, domestic legal and regulatory reform options, and institutional and policy reform options. for Targets 2-7,14 and 17. The final version of the Legal Toolkit will be released by the end of 2012 and be adapted for use in CBD Secretariat National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) training materials and workshops.
