Side Event

Integrated approaches to national reporting to the Rio Conventions

Organizer
UNEP World Conservation Monitoring Centre with the secretariats of CBD and UNCCD

Date and Time
16 October 2012 12:15 - 13:45

Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

National reporting to multilateral environmental agreements constitutes a substantial burden for Parties. The GEF/UNEP project 'Piloting integrated processes and approaches to facilitate national reporting to Rio Conventions' (FNR_Rio) has over the past three years tested approaches to integrated processes for reporting to the CBD, UNCCD and UNFCCC in Least Developed Countries and Small Island Developing States. The CBD COP has welcomed the project (decision X/10, paragraph 13). The project has resulted in insights into streamlined national processes for coordination and collaboration between those involved with reporting to the Rio Conventions, more effective data and information management, and options for joint reporting. The side event will provide perspectives and recommendations from the pilot countries and the Secretariats on the way forward for integrated reporting.
