Meeting
Eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP 11)

Global environemental assessments, whether for biodiversity or climate change, should be based on the best avaialble knowledge. Today there is broad recognition that indegenous and local knowledge must be part of that core data set. We provide an update on recent efforts to bring indigenous and local knowledge into scientific assessment processes (e.g. IPCC, IPBES, Future Earth), and consider case studies presneted by indigenous peoples where community-based knowledge complements and advances current scientific understandings, while sustaining cultural inegrity and fulfilling local needs. The discussion will explore pathways to overcome barriers and build synergies.
