Date and Time
9 October 2013 13:15 - 14:45

Meeting
Eighth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Article 8(j) and Related Provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity

With the joint side event the organizers ibn, SRC, SCBD, IIFB and FFP want to contribute to the in-depth dialogue on "Connecting traditional knowledge systems and science, such as under the IPBES, including gender dimensions". As a basis for further discussion, results of the international Vilm Workshop "Connecting diverse knowledge systems in the context of IPBES" and the Bonn Workshop "Global expert workshop on community-based monitoring and information systems" will be presented. Using knowledge from different knowledge systems can help not only to conserve biodiversity and ecosystem services but also to revitalize biological and cultural diversity for the benefit of human well-being and indigenous self-determination. What are the opportunities and risks involved and how can transparency, reciprocity, respect and mutual support be secured for all?
