IDLO and the CBD Secretariat, with support from the Swiss Federal Office of the Environment are hosting an interactive session on new thinking on how countries can use law to achieve their goals related to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets - together with partners from the CISDL, IUCN, Natural Justice, IELO, and support from the ABS Capacity Development Initiative and Japan Biodiversity Fund. What is the role of law in biodiversity planning? In particular, what are practical ways that countries can consider and create their own tailored legal approaches to achieving national and sub-national goals related to the Aichi Biodiversity Targets? The Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets program is a global initiative to generate new thinking, train in-country lawyers and develop practical guidance for countries to use law to help achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets. This side event will launch four (4) new studies setting out the State of Legal Knowledge on Aichi Targets 3, 11, 14 and 16 – addressing issues from access and benefit sharing/Nagoya Protocol, incentives, protected areas
