Meeting
Seventeenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

In partnership with Caribbean-based Parties and non-governmental organizations, Island Conservation will: a) provide case studies of invasive alien species eradication in the Caribbean, highlighting how these successes have effectively furthered multiple Aichi Biodiversity Targets, as well as met goals established in NBSAPs and/or NISSAPs; b) discuss the scientific and technical needs and opportunities for invasive alien vertebrate eradication; c) provide an overview of existing tools and information systems that can assist Parties and their collaborators in planning and implementing invasive alien vertebrate eradication programs; and d) invite a discussion on Party interest in and perceived barriers to obtaining multi-lateral funding (e.g., from the GEF) to advance relevant Aichi Biodiversity Targets through the eradication of invasive alien species. Although emphasis will be placed on the Caribbean region, much of the information and discussion will be relevant to all island States and nations that include island ecosystems. Aichi Biodiversity Targets that will receive particular attention include, but are not limited to: 5, 9, 12, and 19.
