Third meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Intergovernmental Committee for the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing

A dialogue on “Practical Ways Forward for the Implementation of the Nagoya Protocol” hosted by the Government of South Africa and organized by the ABS Capacity Development Initiative implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft fuer Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH was held in Cape Town , South Africa on 30-31 January 2014. This dialogue was an opportunity to exchange experiences and lessons learnt with respect to past ABS implementation, in particular in Brazil, India and South Africa; and to exchange views and discuss approaches and practical ways forward for the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol, in particular its compliance related provisions. The side event will be an opportunity to share key outcomes of this dialogue with a view to encourage and promote a continued exchange of views and experiences amongst countries to support the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol.
