Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

IDLO invites COP 12 delegates to learn about the latest tools, innovations and initiatives available to assist CBD Parties to use law to support the national implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity and its Aichi Biodiversity Targets. The IDLO-SCBD Legal Preparedness for Achieving the Aichi Biodiversity Targets Initiative, launched in 2012, has fostered collaborations between national lawyers and global experts to define how law can play a key role in NBSAP implementation. This work has shown that legal approaches can be key for coordinating cross-sectoral action, building institutional capacity and empowering people. A particular focus will be given to IDLO’s area of work on legal support for the Nagoya Protocol, mainstreaming and biodiversity incentives, and protected areas.
