Date and Time

Meeting
Twelfth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity

Improving policy and practice regarding biodiversity and ecosystem services requires timely, integrated delivery of authoritative information. To date, services to support such decision-making have focused on specific issues, scales, and institutional niches; EC-JRC, IUCN, BirdLife International, and UNEP-WCMC have been serving tools to deliver such information for many decades. This side-event will open with a short presentation on the knowledge products which underlie these tools: The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species; Protected Planet; Key Biodiversity Areas; and the EC-JRC’s remotely sensed data products. Then we will unveil IBEX, which draws together these institutions and knowledge products into a transformational collaboration to guide policy-makers, conservation practitioners, researchers, and the general public in making decisions at broader thematic and geographic scales than has previously been possible. In doing so, IBEX unifies and amplifies existing efforts including the Digital Observatory for Protected Areas (DOPA), as well as drawing from the work undertaken through the BIOPAMA initiative for protected area capacity building in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. What can IBEX do for you? Join us at this side-event to give us your views.
