IPBES promotes effective engagement with holders of indigenous and local knowledge in all its four functions. This side event will update on the IPBES process on Indigenous and local knowledge, and discuss how the advances in bottom up approaches for community based monitoring (CBMIS) of Aichi Targets developed by indigenous peoples themselves, are cross-fertilizing with the IPBES process to connect indigenous, local and scientific knowledge on equal terms. A task force is currently working on the Platform’s procedures for engaging with indigenous and local knowledge. Indigenous peoples and local communities with long experiences of work under the CBD are contributing their experiences to the IPBES. Methods and ideas will be presented and discussed .
