Assessing and communicating how countries and programmes contribute to the achievement of internationally agreed development and conservation goals is a challenging task. Building on experiences with a poster generation tool to illustrate how the implementation of NBSAPs contributes to the 2010 Biodiversity Targets, GIZ developed a new template for a poster allowing partner countries and/or related development cooperation programmes to visualize a comprehensive résumé of their initiatives under way and the results and impacts achieved so far with respect to the Aichi-Targets. These posters, developed with technical input from SCBD, can support communication processes among stakeholders involved in the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity, and help to share efforts and achievements with other Parties to the CBD. It also holds the potential, if being elaborated multiple times along a time axis towards 2020, to be used as a monitoring tool. The Event will present the experiences gained in the development of a first pilot poster from Namibia, reflect on the potential of posters in assessing and communicating the implementation of the Aichi-Targets and the UN Decade on Biodiversity, and discuss the prospects for and interest in wider application, e.g. through an online-tool for poster development.
