The fourth edition of the Global Biodiversity Outlook (GBO-4) demonstrated that biodiversity and ecosystem services are continuing to decline despite an increase in efforts. However, there are a number of key gaps in the suite of global indicators, preventing a full story from being told. Such gaps also hinder data-informed decision-making at all scales. This side event will showcase ongoing work to fill these global-scale indicator gaps through an EC-funded project. It will also highlight current work to extrapolate the European biodiversity indicators to 2020, to complement and enhance the stories presented in GBO-4. Finally, the side event will present interim results and lessons learned from a regional project, exploring the opportunities for harmonising indicators at both the sub-regional and regional scale within the pan-European region.
