Meeting
Nineteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice

Achieving Aichi Target 12 requires first assessing the conservation status of species to determine its level of threat. Once the conservation status is known, a number of techniques and tools are available to Parties to manage threats and drivers of species extinctions and ultimately to improve their conservation status. IUCN, IUCN Red List Partners, the Friends of Target 12, the Secretariat to the Convention on Biological Diversity and members of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC) have developed a SBSTTA Information Document to provide guidance for Parties in achieving Aichi Target 12. With presentations from IUCN, SCBD, Parties and others, this side event will outline existing tools and resources available to Parties to help achieve Target 12, and through discussion with the audience, will encourage feedback to improve the Information Document in its next iterations for SBSTTA 20 and COP 13.
