Third meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (BS COP MOP 3)

The main purpose of this side event is to outline the work of the OECD and its relevance to risk assessment. It will also describe the development of the general framework for the evaluation of the safety of transgenic organisms in the environment over the last 20 years and the role of the OECD in its development. This is one of a series of events (to be held during 2006) which will commemorate the 20th anniversary of OECD's Blue Book. Two keynote speakers will present the history/ evolution of OECD's risk/ safety assessment framework and OECD's current activities for risk/ safety assessment. Free discussion session will then be held by co-chair persons from non-OECD member countries. Participation of any interested regulators, risk assessors and risk managers is welcome.
