A workshop to discuss and explore ways and means to further the implementation of Article 10 (c) of the Convention, which requires Parties to "protect and encourage customary use of biological resources in accordance with traditional cultural practices that are compatible with conservation and sustainable use requirements". Preliminary results from innovative case studies on customary use of biodiversity carried out in Latin America, Africa and Southeast Asia will be presented to provide the basis to a constructive debate on possible approaches to implement this important CBD Article and to contribute to the development of indicators on sustainable use. The workshop will also address the relevance of this work to the activities of the Working Group on Art. 8(j) and Related Provisions.
