Third meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (BS COP MOP 3)

The Brazilian Network on Biosafety - BioSeg- propose a presentation of a strategic collaboration among 13 Research Stations from Embrapa to develop the studies necessary to address environmental and food safety impact assessment of 5 transgenic crops under development by Embrapa. The proposal and structure of the project as well as the lessons learnt from its 4 year studies will be presented. It is expected that this kind of arrangement could strength biosafety capacity in the country to make informed decisions as to the benefits and risks of adopting transgenic crops and will assist the regulatory body in determining where, when and how these crops and their food products may best be utilized to contribute to the national development priorities.
