Statement by Dr. Hamdallah Zedan, Executive Secretary, to the Opening Session

In his Opening Remarks to the ninth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA-9), Hamdallah Zedan, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity, emphasized the broad scope of the meeting's agenda and the importance of the outcomes. "The issues before you", he told the more than 500 delegates, "go to the very heart of the Convention and your recommendations will have important implications for our work over the years to come."
