I am pleased to inform you that the Secretariat has completed the selection of participants to the Experts Meeting on Liability and Redress under Article 14 (2) of the Convention to be held on 12 - 14 October 2005, in Montreal, Canada on the basis of nominations received from Parties, Governments and relevant international organizations. The list of selected experts is attached to this notification.

Dear Madam/Sir, In its decisions VI/11 and VII/17 on liability and redress, the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to convene a group of legal and technical experts composed of government-nominated experts based on a fair and equitable geographical representation and including observers from relevant international organizations, including non-governmental organizations and convention secretariats. The mandate of the group of legal and technical experts is to review information gathered by the Executive Secretary in accordance with paragraph 2 of decision VI/11 and conduct further analysis of pertinent issues relating to liability and redress in the context of paragraph 2 of Article 14 of the Convention. Further to these decisions, in Notification 2005-054 Parties were invited to designate experts to participate in the group of legal and technical experts. I am pleased to inform you that the Secretariat has completed the selection of participants for this meeting on the basis of nominations received from Parties, Governments and relevant international organizations. The selection of experts is based on expertise and experience, taking into account gender balance, equitable geographical distribution and the need to balance legal and technical expertise. The list of selected experts is attached to this notification.
