Notification 2019-026

Dates of the Intersessional Meetings of the Convention on Biological Diversity for the biennium 2019-2020

Dear Madam/Sir, I would like to inform you that, after consultation with the Bureaux of the Conference of the Parties and the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice, and taking into account the calendar of major international meetings, the dates of major intersessional meetings of the Convention for 2019-2020 are now confirmed as follows: • WG-8J 11: 20-22 November 2019 • SBSTTA 23: 25-29 November 2019 • SBSTTA 24: 18-23 May 2020 • SBI 3: 25-29 May 2020 These meetings will all take place at ICAO in Montreal, Canada. By decision 14/34, the Conference of the Parties established an open-ended intersessional working group to support the preparation of the post-2020 global biodiversity framework. It is envisaged that Working Group would meet at least twice in the intersessional period and that additional meetings could be envisaged if the need arises, subject to the availability of resources. (Decision 14/37 provides core budgetary resources for two meetings of the Working Group.) The Working Group will deliver the proposed framework on post-2020 to COP, drawing upon the inputs from the Subsidiary Bodies. Accordingly, following consultation with the Co-Chairs of the Working Group and the COP Bureau, the following arrangements are being made: • The Secretariat is exploring options for venues with a view to convening the first meeting 27-30 August 2019. • A meeting of the Working Group will take place 27-31 July 2020. • The Secretariat is exploring options for additional meetings to be financed through extrabudgetary resources. Further information on the post-2020 process including a detailed and updated schedule of events is available at: https://www.cbd.int/post2020/. Please accept, Madam/Sir, the assurances of my highest consideration.
