Title Using Spatial Data to Develop and Implement the post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework: Best Practices from around the World
Hosts
UNEP | UNDP | CBD |
Topics
Post 2020 Framework

Spatial data can help understand where biodiversity and ecosystem services are located, how human pressures impact nature, and the potential impact of conservation actions. These data also help to improve the effectiveness of measures to achieve the Aichi Biodiversity Targets (ABTs), and will guide implementation of the CBD's post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework.

In this context, we challenged GEF-eligible Parties to the CBD to double the number of maps in their Sixth National Report (6NR) as compared to their Fifth National Report (5NR) and NBSAPs. During this side event, four countries will showcase best practices in using spatial data to guide the development and implementation of policies on nature. Each of them will demonstrate how they prepared a high quality, data-driven Sixth National Report by combining national datasets and global datasets from the UN Biodiversity Lab. Presentations will also highlight the relevance of the continuing use of spatial data to support further the implementation of NBSAPs and biodiversity monitoring in the post-2020 context. A discussion will follow on how to improve the access sharing and use of spatial data for decision-making.

A light lunch will be provided.
