In decision 14/25, the Conference of the Parties requested the Executive Secretary to develop, in consultation with the informal advisory committees to the clearing-house mechanism, the Biosafety Clearing-House and the Access and Benefit Sharing Clearing-House, a knowledge management strategy as a part of the preparatory process for the post-2020 global biodiversity framework.

The preamble of the Convention on Biological Diversity acknowledges the general lack of information and knowledge regarding biological diversity and in Article 17, the Convention requires Parties to facilitate the exchange of relevant information, from all publicly available sources, including results of technical, scientific and socio-economic research, as well as information on training and surveying programmes, specialized knowledge, indigenous and traditional knowledge.

This side-event will provide an opportunity for all stakeholders to provide inputs for the knowledge management strategy and to discuss related issues.
