Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR)

Since 2000, CGIAR has supported the implementation of the programme of work on Agricultural Biodiversity. CGIAR is a strategic partnership of countries, international and regional organizations and private foundations supporting the work of 15 international centres in the fields of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, policy, and environment.

In collaboration with national agricultural research systems, civil society and the private sector, the CGIAR fosters sustainable agricultural growth through science aimed at achieving sustainable food security and reducing poverty in developing countries. Today more than 8,500 CGIAR scientists and staff are working in over 100 countries, addressing every critical component of the agricultural sector.

CGIAR’s main areas of focus are:

• sustainable land management and production;
  
• enhancing National Agricultural Research Systems;
  
• germplasm improvement and collection; and
  
• policy.
