The Faculty of Natural & Applied Sciences (FNAS), in close partnership with the faculty of Architecture, Art & Design and the Faculty of Engineering, is organizing a series of interfaculty events between May 20 and 30, 2013, to celebrate the International Day for Biological Diversity (IDB).

Cultural Landscapes is NDU's theme for this year’s event. The event aims at raising awareness on the importance of the protection of Biological Diversity within the context of the existing close relationship between ecological and social systems. The interactions between both systems form what we term “Cultural Landscapes”.

In this light, FNAS launched photography, drawing, and poster competitions for students in November 2012. An orientation session for those participating in the competitions was held in January 2013. A series of seminars will be held from May 20 to 30, 2013. Keynote speakers will be invited to give talks about the various aspects of cultural landscapes as well as natural and built environments.

  American University of Beirut
The 7th annual International Biodiversity Day At AUB (IBDAA) program, organized by the American University of Beirut - Nature Conservation Center, and sponsored by Jammal Trust Bank, will offer AUB students the chance to present and compete for the Jammal Trust Bank Eco-Innovation Awards. Four awards relating Arts and Humanities, Research, Product Development and Business Plans to nature conservation projects will be presented.

The theme for IBDAA 2013 is “Water and Biodiversity”, in partnership with the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity, and in line with the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration of 2013 as the United Nations International Year of Water Cooperation.
