| Targeted Outputs |
1. Help strengthen financing provided by at least 10 Parties and other donors for national implementation of the Strategic Plan and Aichi Biodiversity Targets in over 20 developping countries, by facilitating round tables for relevant countries and sub-regions, as a means to share national priorities with multiple donors, attract donor interest, and coordinate funding.
2. Contribute to the alignment of international development cooperation discussions, based on national priorities articulated through updated NBSAPs and action plans for the Programme of Work on Protected Areas.
3. Provide visible incentive for developing country Parties, and Parties with economies in transition, to update their NBSAPs, by demonstrating the potential to share national biodiversity priorities with international cooperation partners.
4. Leverage support provided by the Japan Fund to strengthen consideration of funding from at least 10 other partners in support of the Strategic Plan and Aichi Biodiversity Targets.
5. Illustrate constructive synergy between Japan and Germany as current and former COP Presidents in helping finance implementation of the Strategic Plan and Aichi Biodiversity Targets. |
| Specific Activities |
1. Meetings: Support Parties in convening financing round tables for implementation of the Strategic Plan and Aichi Biodiversity Targets, with an initial focus on in-situ biodiversity 2011. When appropriate, these roundtables can be held back-to-back with NBSAP workshops. Specific workshops planned in 2011 with partial support from the Japan Fund include:
- West Africa in Dakar, Senegal: May 2011
- Brazil, September 2011
- Caribbean, October 2011
- Pacific, November 2011
Anticipated outputs:
- Reinforcement of the alignment of development cooperation discussions with priorities for in situ biodiversity articulated in updated NBSAPs.
- Encouragement for donors to consider contributing financial support for biodiversity priorities by providing donor coordination and counterpart funding opportunities.
2. Workshops: Support the content and delivery of NBSAP workshops, as appropriate, by providing materials related to financing roundtables and CBD LifeWeb, as well as pertinent information for Parties who are co-convening financing roundtables to assist their preparation for NBSAP workshops.
Anticipated outcomes:
- Increased vision of developing country Parties and Parties with economies in transition of how their updated NBSAPs can help align and strengthen international development cooperation based on their national priorities.
- Increased awareness and preparation of some Parties prior to holding NBSAP workshops.
These activities are co-financed by the Government of Germany for an amount of over US$250,000. |
