Fifth meeting of the Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group on Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS WG 5)
The Activities held under the Dutch-German Capacity Development Initiative for Africa will be presented first-hand by African Participants and Delegates as a basis for a discussion with the audience on the Initiative's future steps : 1. Welcome addresses by Germany, The Netherlands and SCBD 2. Background of the Initiative - Objectives and Instruments / Milestones and Results so far 3. Where it started: Recommendations on Capacity Building in Africa - South and Eastern African Orientation Workshop (Addis Ababa 2005) 4. Kick-off : Creating an African ABS Vision - Initial regional multi-stakeholder workshop (Cape Town, November 2006) 5. Getting concrete: Tackling ABS Instruments - The African View of the Certificate of Origin (Addis Ababa, March 2007) 6. Involving Business: between ABS and Biotrade - ABS, Biotrade & Commercial Research (Windhoek, June 2007) 7. Supporting (Sub-) Regional Harmonization - COMIFAC Working Group on Biodiversity (GTBAC) (Douala, Sept. 2007) 8. In the margins of the negotiations - African Delegates Briefing & Capacity Building (Montreal, October 2007) 9. Feedback round - African delegates are invited to formulate further ideas and approaches for capacitydevelopment 10. The headway towards COP 9 - Further steps planned : Regional, subregional workshops and delegation briefings
