This event will outline the challenges developing countries are facing while exploring the potential role of biotechnology in improving human well-being and addressing the need to ensure that the technology is developed and used in a safe manner. The model of the UNIDO e-biosafety Training programme will be demonstrated as one means how adequate biosafety and risk assessment capacities can be built up through internationally accredited training in biosafety to policy makers, researchers and professionals in government agencies and industry, and how these countries can combine expertise through South-South networking.
