Contribution of the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) to the work on invasive species

This side event aims to highlight the current mechanisms available through the IPPC to implement programmes to manage invasive species. Under the IPPC, contracting parties are obliged to put in place a national plant protection organization (NPPO) responsible for preventing the movement and spread of pests of plants, which include invasive alien species. This presentation will identify opportunities for collaboration between environmental agencies wishing to manage invasive species and NPPOs in order to utilize the IPPC Standards and national systems already in place.
