How Governments Value Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services
Organizer

Date and Time
14 May 2010 13:15 - 14:45
Successful implementation of the CBD post-2010 Strategic Plan will require an improved enabling environment at global and – most importantly - national levels, delivered through appropriate policy, financial and institutional frameworks that facilitate wise management and conservation. Specifically, changes must be made to integrate the value of biodiversity into economic and social systems. This side event will present grounded examples of how local and national governments are valuing biodiversity and the ecosystem services it provides and ensuring that the right incentives are in place to make conservation a beneficial choice in the short term and the long term. Building on these examples, speakers will make specific recommendations for the post-2010 targets.
