Fourteenth meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA 14)

Sustainable management of forests including conservation is a vital part of the solution to solving two of the most pressing environmental issues: climate change and biodiversity loss. Reducing deforestation and forest degradation is a challenge that requires coordination between experts working in the fields of climate change and biodiversity. The main objective of the side event is to bring forth evidence for why countries should consider biodiversity in their national and sub-national efforts to reduce emissions from forests. The side-event will also explore tools and process that countries can utilize in order to align and seize the biodiversity and reducing emissions from forests opportunities. The side event would be arranged with an introductory panel that will present the above mentioned evidence, tools and process as basis for an open discussion on best ways to integrate biodiversity and REDD+.
