<br>France would like to highlight the very key importance of partnerships to reach 2010 objective. Thus France convened a side event on “Partnerships and biodiversity” which will present four perspectives on partnerships to preserve biodiversity. Firstly the regional nature park will be presented : Local governments have joined with the national government in an innovative, determined contractual process to preserve biodiversity. Then, we will see how French Global Environment Facility is a tool to develop partnerships in cooperation projects to preserve biodiversity. In terms of biodiversity research, partnerships is also key in so far as it needs interdisciplinary approach to understand and assess the biodiversity and its pressures. To finish with, IUCN general director will show us lessons learned and best practices in partnerships : IUCN is by itself a partnership organization.
