Date and Time
12 October 2010 13:15 - 14:45

Meeting
Fifth meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (BS COP MOP 5)

Whilst most southern African countries have indicated a desire to include socio-economic considerations in their biosafety decision-making processes, it has become evident that there is a general lack of clarity on what specific issues are and the methodologies for assessing them. In a quest to develop a shared understanding on these issues, RAEIN-Africa is facilitating a process aimed at unpacking the specific socio-economic issues to be considered in biosafety risk assessment processes in the Southern African context. in this side event, RAEIN-Africa, and partners (university of Pretoria, IFPRI) through a multi-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder team, will share their experiences.
