<p><b>Principal Presenters:</b></p> <p>Tomas Azcarate, President of the Institute of Responsible Tourism, Cipriano Marin, Vice Secretary-general of Insula (International Scientific Council for Island Development), and Paola Deda Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity.</p> <p><b>Main Topics:</b></p> <p>Presentation of the SCBD/INSULA/UN-SIDS joint publication: Island Biodiversity - sustaining life in vulnerable ecosystems. <p>Tourism, Biological and Cultural Diversity - Recommendations to be presented at the Universal Forum of Cultures</p> <p>Island biological diversity is the subject featured in this special issue of Insula, the International Journal of Island Affairs. The main aim of this publication is to offer solid reference elements and case studies to efficiently contribute to the development of an island biological diversity strategy for the forthcoming years. This issue is the result of a joint effort by three organizations that are actively involved in island environmental and development affairs: the International Scientific Council for Island Development, the Small Island Developing States Unit of the Division for Sustainable Development of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, and the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. </p><p>Jointly with the publication, an important event will be presented: the Dialogue on Tourism, Cultural Diversity and Sustainable Development, which is included within the big challenges that will be faced next July in the framework of the Universal Forum of Cultures to be held in Barcelona, Spain. The objective is to gather recommendations and ideas of future, to be presented at the Forum, regarding the tight relationship existing between tourism and biological diversity in all its aspects, with a special emphasis on islands.</p>
