Why do we need an international liability regime for biotechnology?

First meeting of the Conference of the Parties serving as the Meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (BS COP MOP 1)

<p>Ambassador Beat NOBS (SAEFL, Switzerland) will open this side-event with a keynote address. Four short presentations will then take place, covering the following subjects:</p> <li>Specificities of Liability in the Context of Biotechnology <li>Existing Rules on Liability and Identified Gaps <li>Liability Regimes: Illustrations from Switzerland <li>Suggestions for the Development of an International Liability and Redress Regime <p>Finally, a round table, with members of the SAEFL, IELRC and Syngenta, will give a chance to the audience to participate in the debate and raise their concerns.</p><p><b>About IELRC</b></p> <p>IELRC has been actively involved for nearly a decade in research and policy activities in the context of the development of the Biodiversity Convention and the Biosafety Protocol. IELRC has focused particularly on the development of law and policy frameworks for biosafety at the international level and in specific countries. </p> <p>Further, IELRC has built significant expertise in the field of liability and biosafety.
